2023 OFFICIAL RULES
1) One submission per student; 2) Current resident of Whitestone; 3) Current middle or high school student; 4) 500 word minimum typed essay, 12pt font, 1.5 spacing; 5) Submission deadline May 10, 2023; 6) To submit an essay, upload using the submission form below; 7) $250 Cash Prize awarded to one middle school entry and one high school entry; $25 Gift Card awarded to runners up one middle school entry and one high school entry; 8) Essays judged based on relevance and writer's expression regarding why they love the Whitestone community and how community involvement is beneficial; 9) Winner will be announced prior to the Awards Presentation on May 17th.
Awards will be presented at the We Love Whitestone Town Hall Meeting on May 17th at 7:30pm at Grace Church, 14-15 Clintonville Street, Whitestone.
NOTE ESSAY FORMAT: Essays to be uploaded in PDF format, 12pt font, 1.5 spacing. Text only, no photographs or graphics, please. Please include student full name, name of school, grade, contact person phone number and email address on the top of the page.

Note: All essays submitted are reviewed by Mr. Donald J. Schroeder, Ph.D., a Whitestone resident and former 20-year professor at John Jay College, retired NYPD Captain, published author of six books on Police Entrance and Promotion, and Doctor of Philosophy from CCNY. We thank Mr. Schroeder for volunteering his professional services. The Board of Directors of WLW were not privy to Mr. Schroeder’s review and have no part in the selection process.
